WILL CANO RETURN? COUNT ON IT

Reading Pete Caldera in the Bergen Record today, a calm came over me.  I have been thinking about a Yankee team without Robinson Cano and it bothers me.  Now, if you read Pete today, read HERE, I feel like the chances of Cano coming back look real good.  Pete writes:

"Hal Steinbrenner wants Robinson Cano to spend his entire career in pinstripes, and the Yankees have already started talks to make it happen.

'There’s been a conversation or two,' Steinbrenner told reporters in Tampa, Fla., on Friday. 'We’ll get into that and we’ll talk about that at a later date. But he’s obviously been a great Yankee, and hope he’s here his entire career.'

Cano is entering his free agent walk year, but his agent, Scott Boras, has a long history of taking his clients into the open market.

Steinbrenner is steadfast about getting the payroll below the $189 million luxury tax threshold before next season, though Cano is viewed as a priority.
"

Robinson Cano, the next Derek Jeter? Homegrown talent that becomes a leader in the clubhouse? That's what I see if I'm a fan.  Bleeding Yankee Blue has written about Cano and how he needs to to become a leader for a while now. Many believe, me included that he will be that leader.  We even suggested that he should be the next Yankee Captain after Derek Jeter hangs it up...not that we're pushing out Jeter, we're just saying.  Read Fox Luu's piece titled WHY ROBINSON CANO IS OUR FUTURE CAPTAIN for guidance on that.

The biggest part of this whole puzzle is that, as Caldera writes, there will be "millions potentially coming off the 2014 payroll with the contracts of Curtis Granderson, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera and Hiroki Kuroda only signed through 2013."  I see the light and I now understand why we're not spending... It's all coming together.  The Yankees are playing to win in 2013, but they are shooting for 2014 and beyond, (MY YANKEES: AIMING TO WIN IN 2014.)

The Yankees will sign Cano big, I believe that, regardless of Scott Boras being his agent and then,  we'll get the likes of Manny Banuelos, Michael Pineda, Mark Montgomery and Jose Campos ready to go pro as well as the likes of Slade Heathcott and Tyler Austin.  The Yankees DO have a plan after all... and now it's all coming to light.

Thanks for the positive piece Pete Caldera... we needed that!
